Hypoglycemia Insulin

Hypoglycemia Insulin means low blood sugar. It’s a reaction of the body caused by excessive insulin released into the bloodstream. This is more common to people who are diabetic and are taking insulin injection to control their diabetes as opposed to those who are just using pills.

Insulin is a hormone that reduces blood sugar and is produced by the pancreas. It’s the body’s response to increased glucose “sugar” level in the body. For those who are not diabetic, Hypoglycemia rarely occurs but not impossible. The reason for this is a healthy person only produces insulin when the body needs it, as opposed to diabetic patients who regularly inject themselves with a regular dosage of this hormone, whether it’s needed or not.

When too much insulin is present in the blood, it reduces blood glucose to a dangerous level, thus the Hypoglycemia happens, or Insulin reaction as others term it. It is very important for diabetic patient to watch their diet and activity, since they are constantly injecting the insulin hormone to their body. There should be a balance between the hormone and the glucose in the blood. An excess of any one of this, either the insulin or the glucose in the bloodstream can cause this medical condition.

Diabetic patient should constantly watch their diet especially when there is an increase level of activity like exercise. You are burning more calories than you normally would, so there should also be an increase of food intake. You should remember to have your insulin and food intake in proportion to avoid this incident.

How would you know if you are suffering from Insulin Reaction? Most people usually have the symptoms of dizziness, irritability, hunger but not thirsty, shakiness, sweating and rapid heartbeat. These symptoms are usually felt during mild attacks. Confusion, headache, poor coordination, unconsciousness, seizure and coma are the mild to severe symptoms.

If you are diabetic and you felt any of the symptoms, you should treat it as quickly as possible to avoid complications. If you are suffering from mild attack, you can treat it by drinking half a can of soda, half cup orange juice or eating 5 hard candies, 1/3 cup raisins to bring balance to your blood sugar and insulin hormone. After 15 minutes you should check your blood sugar, and if the result of your blood sugar is still low, you should repeat drinking or eating another portion.

You can usually avoid hypoglycemic attack by avoiding eating less than your usual dietary allowance, especially when there’s an increase of activity. Also avoid skipping meals or eating late. Remember that you always need to watch out the balance between your insulin and your blood sugar. Also, do not take more insulin or vary the time in which you inject them. Stick to your schedule of medication and your dosage as well.

If you are diabetic or a member of your family is, first aid should be discussed to all members in case of emergency. If someone is experiencing severe Hypoglycemic Insulin that causes unconsciousness or seizures, 911 should be called for emergency treatment.
